Matter and AP Pension launch new partnership on sustainable pension savings.

Matter launches new partnership with AP Pension

Matter’s partner Skandia was acquired by AP Pension in the beginning of 2019, which created a foundation for a new partnership between Matter and AP Pension that we are very excited to announce!

This is a big step for Matter and for the vision upon which our company was founded, and it is an opportunity to reach even more Danes and companies looking to invest their pensions sustainably.

What does the new partnership mean?

Since October 2018 it has been possible to create a sustainable pension with Matter and Skandia. When AP Pension acquired Skandia, we started defining the new partnership. Luckily, AP Pension shared our vision to accelerate sustainable pension investments, and we got to work. First and foremost, it was important for us to continue offering solutions with the same strict sustainability criteria as we have defined with Skandia.

AP Pension acquiring Skandia entailed developing a new sustainable investment approach for both current and new customers. We have assisted AP Pension in the development of a new, sustainable solution, and contributed with key insights regarding sustainability.

Now, we are ready – and we are excited to share the results.

What does the new investment solution consist of?

The new sustainable investment approach includes sustainable stocks and green bonds, and now it also includes direct investments in renewable energy, sustainable forestry and real estate. Naturally, we still go out of our way to avoid fossil fuels, weapons and tobacco.

I am a customer at Skandia through Matter – how will these changes affect me and my savings?

All customers that have a sustainable pension with Skandia will be transferred to AP Pension, and we will personally contact everyone with more details about the procedure.

If you have any additional questions about the process, you can also email our CMO Nete Johannsen on ngj@matterpension.dk and she will get back to you as quickly as she can.

Now, companies can also get sustainable pension schemes for their employees

For a long time, we have been working to develop sustainable pension schemes for companies, and we are finally ready to give companies a sustainable alternative for their employees’ pension plans.

Furthermore, private customers as well as companies can still follow the environmental impact from their sustainable investments, for example how much CO2 they avoid when divesting from black energy, and additionally how much green energy their savings help produce.

Facts about the new sustainable investment approach

Common for all investments is that they to a certain degree support the goals of the Paris Agreement or contribute to one or more of UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). Amongst the goals represented are the following:

  • Goal 3: Good health and well-being
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
  • Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
  • Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
  • Goal 13: Climate action
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Equity
The equity portfolio is managed by BankInvest and consists of 150-200 stocks carefully selected in a universe of securities where at least 20 percent of the companies’ revenues are connected to one or more of the SDGs. Simultaneously, the portfolio must have 50 percent less CO2 emission than a comparable index.

Bonds
The bonds are selected only amid ‘green bonds’ financing green projects that contribute to climate change actions and the green transition. This universe of securities contains bonds with a low credit risk such as state bonds and mortgage bonds.

Alternatives
Three types of alternative investments are included: 1) renewable energy, 2) Danish real estate and 3) forestry. The alternative investments are dispersed with 60 percent in sustainable energy, 30 percent in Danish real estate and 10 percent in forestry.

  • The investments in renewable energy involves off- and onshore wind farms, solar power etc., all contributing to the sustainable transition of energy production.
  • The investments in Danish real estate are managed by AP Ejendomme (real estate) and only invested in constructions with a sustainable certification. Furthermore, in sustainable improvements on existing buildings such as energy efficiency augmentations.
  • The investments in forestry require already holding a certificate or being in the process of certification by the FSC or PEFC.
